North East Lancashire Dyslexia Association Chairman
Lancashire
I spend leisure time walking in Cumbria and an interest in Pilates. Like to travel. Interest in natural sciences, worked in the health department of a large company and dealt with occupational hygiene and the risks open to employees. I assess adults and understand from both adult and the employers viewpoint. Changed careers later on and worked as a science teacher. During a career break became interested in teaching children with specific learning difficulties. Worked with the Reading and Language Service followed by an appointment to the SpLD team based in Lancashire. On retirement I became a member of the Community Health Council followed by Chairman of a local Dyslexia Association. I have four children. My son is dyspraxic so I understand from a parent's viewpoint as well as a teacher. I am interested in developing resources for dyslexic children and we have almost completed with the aid of lottery funding in assessing a complete Year 4 group (63 children) in a disadvantaged area of Blackburn using Lucid Assessments.
My main ambition is to introduce screening for all year 4 children throughout Lancashire,
